Supporting Initiatives that Uplift, Connect, and Inspire

Each year, Johns Hopkins University and Medicine invests in local organizations whose work strengthens the social, economic, and cultural fabric of Baltimore and the surrounding region.

These initiatives expand access to education, promote health and well-being, foster workforce opportunity, and bring neighbors together to build a more vibrant, equitable community.

  • Expungement Clinics

Twice a year, in the fall and winter, Johns Hopkins partners with Maryland Legal Aid to host Expungement Clinics. These events help community members with criminal records get a fresh start.

By helping to clear past records, we open doors to better job and housing opportunities. These clinics show how teamwork can make a real difference in our community.
  • Blood Drives

There is always a need for blood, and we team up with the Red Cross year-round to organize blood drives. This long-standing partnership benefits everyone in our community and helps save lives!

These drives make an incredible impact on our community's health, and we encourage all who can come out and donate.
  • Hopkins Day at the Ballpark

In spring, we head to Nationals Park in DC, and in fall, we enjoy a game at Camden Yards in Baltimore and show our Blue Jay pride. This five-year tradition brings together staff, students, and faculty for an evening of baseball and community spirit.

It's a great opportunity to show your Hopkins pride, relax with colleagues, and enjoy America's favorite pastime. These events boost morale and foster a sense of community among the Hopkins family.
  • Vernon Rice Memorial Turkey Drive

Every year, just before Thanksgiving, we honor the legacy of former employee Vernon Rice through the Vernon Rice Memorial Turkey Drive. This cherished tradition began as Rice's personal charity effort in 1976 and now serves many communities surrounding Johns Hopkins University and Medicine.

We partner with local organizations to identify families in need and provide them with everything needed for a hearty Thanksgiving meal. This annual event embodies the spirit of giving that Vernon Rice championed, continuing his mission of helping our neighbors during the holiday season.
  • Holiday Gifting Program

Each December, we spread holiday cheer to families and senior citizens in need of extra support during the festive season through our Holiday Gifting Program. This program does more than just provide gifts—it brings our Hopkins community together. Last year, an impressive 75 teams and departments joined in, sponsoring families and fulfilling their holiday wishlists.

This annual tradition brightens the holidays for our neighbors while boosting morale and teamwork among Hopkins staff. It's a heartwarming way to close out the year and make a difference in our community.
  • Summer Activities in Eager Park

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Eager Park comes alive with various summer activities. For several years, Johns Hopkins has been organizing lunchtime concerts, back-to-school fairs, vaccination clinics, and movie nights for the community to enjoy.
These activities provide entertainment and essential services, creating a vibrant community hub. Hospital workers can enjoy a refreshing break during lunchtime concerts while families gather for fun evening movies. Eager Park has become a cherished summer destination that brings our community together.
